Development and upturn

Due to the upgrading of the route between Neusiedl am See and Pamhagen in the period from 1980 to 1994 (stronger tracks, technical safety features on railway crossings, speed increases, loudspeaker systems for all stations with remote control from Pamhagen), it was possible also to obtain passenger traffic (tourism, commuters) as a mainstay alongside goods transports. The real upturn in passenger traffic came with the inclusion of the route in the Eastern Region Transport Association on 1st September 1988. After a change in the political situation and the opening up of the borders with Hungary, public passenger transport over the Pamhagen border crossing recommenced on 27th May 1990.
